A train crash involving the 408 Taroko Express train happened on April 2 this year, claiming 50 lives and leading to the worst rail accident in Taiwan in five decades. In response to such tragic events, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has been actively engaged in rescue operations, offering support to the families of the victims and injured passengers, while cooperating with the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board in an investigation to determine its cause.
As part of the global community, Taiwan has taken part in delivering humanitarian aid to other countries. In the wake of the accident, assistance offered and condolences and sympathy extended by our friends in the international community have brought warmth to the hearts of Taiwanese people. At this difficult time of national mourning, people across Taiwan will stand in solidarity and get through this tough moment together. We would also like to take this opportunity and express our deepest gratitude to Japan, the US, Palau, the Czech Republic, Portugal, and other international friends.
