Minister Wang, Kwo-Tsai attends the APEC Taiwan-US Business Forum and witnesses the signing of three cooperation memorandums
Minister Wang, Kwo-Tsai led a delegation to the 11th APEC Transport Ministers Meeting in Detroit from May 15th to 17th (U.S. time). He shared Taiwan’s experience and achievements, and interacted well with representatives from various members during the meeting, adding to the chances of future collaboration on policy, technology and industry with APEC members. On May 18, Minister Wang was invited to the Taiwan-US Business Forum, and witnessed the signing of three cooperation memorandums by industry, government, and academic representatives from both sides.
 
To continue the achievements of our delegation to the APEC Transportation Ministers Meeting held from May 15th to 17th in the U.S., Minister Wang was invited to the American Midwest Taiwan-US Business Forum, with the theme of Fulfill APEC TMM: Innovation, Sustainability and Mobility, and witnessed the signing of three cooperation memorandums respectively between Taiwan’s RAC Electric Vehicles. Inc. and Optimal Electric Vehicles, LLC., Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago and Michigan Economic Development Corp., as well as the National Cheng Kung University and Michigan State University. The MOUs will facilitate Taiwan and the U.S. in exploring more opportunities for cooperation in the electric vehicle industry. With the end of the forum on May 18, it was a successful conclusion for Minister Wang to lead a delegation to the U.S. to participate in the 11th APEC Transport Ministers Meeting.
 
The Ministry of Transportation and Communications pointed out that Minister Wang participated in a side event in themed Starting APEC Green Shipping Cooperation on May 15 to share Taiwan’s measures and achievements in promoting green shipping. On May 16, in the session of the Transport Ministers' Meeting themed Supply Chain and Connectivity, agenda, Minister Wang shared major achievements of maintaining the normal operation of sea and air transportation and strengthening the resilience of key infrastructure under the impact of the pandemic; in the session themed Addressing Transportation’s Role in Climate Change, Minister Wang pointed out that to achieve net zero emissions, Taiwan will continue to develop green ports and industries related to offshore wind power. On May 17, in the session themed Inclusivity and Gender, we shared the major policies regarding transportation accessibility for people with disabilities and those in rural areas, such as the Love Pickup Passengers APP and the Rural Happiness Bus. It showcases Taiwan's achievements in implementing this year’s APEC working goals- Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All Parties. It is also Taiwan’s goal to contribute to the future cooperations among economies in the APEC region.
In this Ministerial meeting, Minister Wang also held bilateral meetings with many member economies. In addition to exchanging and interacting with the host member, the U.S., on issues including green shipping cooperation, electric vehicle industry chain cooperation, drone management, and railway safety, Minister Wang also had exchanged ideas and interacted with Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Vietnam in sideline talks to exchange views on issues including post-pandemic recovery of the transportation industry, net-zero emissions, and electrification of vehicles that are concerned by the APEC Transport Ministers Meeting.
