The primary purpose of the Motor Vehicle Freight Traffic Survey is to collect data on the types, destinations, volumes, revenue, etc. of private and operating trucks transporting goods in Taiwan. The information will be used to develop measures for managing motor vehicle freight and for transportation planning, as well as for compiling Input-Output Tables (IOTs). 
　　According to the 2023 Motor Vehicle Freight Traffic Survey, the total freight tonnage was 717 million metric tons, representing a 3.4% decrease from the previous year (2022). Notably, 85.3% of the total freight tonnage was related to domestic sales excluding imports. Ton-kilometers traveled totaled 38.9 billion. 
　　The top 10 commodities transported by motor vehicle freight in 2023 accounted for 448 million metric tons, representing 62.5% of the total freight volume of 717 million metric tons. 
　　In 2023, operating trucks traveled 65.8 kilometers per trip, 2.4 times more than private trucks (27.1 kilometers), indicating that private trucks are primarily used for short-distance transportation. 
　　Additionally, the total revenue of freight traffic by operating trucks in 2023 was NT$187.5 billion, a decrease of NT$1.2 billion from 2022.  The average revenue per metric ton increased by NT$4.9 to NT$372.9 from the previous year.
