Telecommunications: Seamless Networks, Happy Life

Currently, Taiwan mainly employs 4G technologies for its mobile networks, with more than 15 million mobile users. The bandwidth for cellular networks increased from 400MHz to590MHz. Furthermore, in response to the insufficiencies of Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4), MOTC has proposed the “IPv6 upgrade promotion program” since 2011. Via the intranets and extranets of various government institutions, the government networks are gradually being switched to the goal of full IPv6 adoption, actively promoting the development of the ICT industry.

Developments in mobile communications are gradually moving toward integrated application services, such as those involved in creating “smart cities” and the Internet of Things. By efficiently gathering data and integrating knowledge with an attitude of openness and taking the initiative, MOTC will both provide innovative platforms and engage in spectrum planning.

The aim is to foster development and innovation within the ICT industry in accordance with the government policy of striving for universal broadband access, in recognition that such access is becoming a basic human right.
