The “Kaohsiung Railway Underground Project” organized by the Railway Reconstruction Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications starts from the south of Dazhong Road of Zuoying District to the west side of Ta-Chih Land Bridge of Fengshan District, with a total distance of approximately 15 km. The total land area made available after the construction of railway underground project is approximately 71 hectares. Ministe Tan, Ho Chen of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has already approved that Taiwan Railways Administration will commission City Government of Kaohsiung for free to carry out the railway landscaping project. The planning and design of the railway landscaping project will begin in 2017. The “Kaohsiung Railway Underground Project” not only will include three underground stations of Zuoying, Kaohsiung and Fengshan, but also will add 7 Taiwan Railway Rapid Transit Systematization commute stations. The existing land bridges and tunnels along the railway will be dismantled. The railway landscaping project will include greenways, waterways, bicycle lane and pedestrian sidewalk, which will combine with the nearby bicycle lane network and Rapid Transit System as well as Circular Light Rail System, connecting to Chouchai Wetland, Lianchihtan and Jhongdu Wetland. The railway landscape area is equivalent to the green land of 4 Central Parks, which can plant 18,000 trees, construct 15 km of bicycle lane, and connect the existing 24 green lands available in the region, setting an example of world-class green city.
