On December 2nd, 2016, Executive Yuan Premier LIN Chuan, accompanied by Minister HO CHEN, Tan Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), went south to Neishi Railway Station in Pingtung County''s Fangshan Township, where they heard a briefing presented by the MOTC, to understand the present state of the ''Hengchun Sightseeing Railway Project'' feasibility study, and inspect the platform reconstruction and track configuration at Neishi Station. It is expected that the ''Hengchun Sightseeing Railway Construction'' being carried out by the Railway Reconstruction Bureau will bring a diverse range of development with it to the Pingtung region.
Looking forward to future tourism products in Taiwan, an experiential economic model that demonstrates ''local culture'', ''feature innovation'', and leaves ''lasting impressions'' will certainly be a necessity. It should start out from Taiwan''s lifestyle and diversity, and utilize Taiwan''s memorable features to provide international visitors with unique in-depth experiences. To this end, the ''Hengchun Sightseeing Railway'' takes the development of a green sightseeing railway line as its keystone, creating a new experiential tourism mode for the Hengchun peninsula, which in future will be further integrated with road public transport and yacht sightseeing, to provide visitors with multi-directional, diversified tourism services through a well-formed transport model.
The Premier said that the development of agriculture in Pingtung features many different landscape characteristics. For example, Donggang and Dapeng Bay have the characterisits of harbor districts, while at points south of Hengchun all the way to Kenting, there are also many well-known tourist attractions. The government hopes that tourists will be able to see all aspects of the beauty that Pingtung has to offer. For this reason, the purpose of the ''Hengchun Sightseeing Railway Construction Plan'' proposed by the MOTC is to combine the local landscape with the region''s cultural qualities. The project is expected to extend a railway line from Fangliao to Hengchun. This railway extension will not only solve traffic problem, but also use the integration of transport and sightseeing, to allow the local real estate industry to develop and move forward in pace with the world-class tourism industry.
At present, the MOTC has already completed the ''Hengchun Sightseeing Railway Feasibility Study'', which will be submitted to the Executive Yuan for approval. In the future, the Hengchun Sightseeing Railway will still need the three-way cooperation of central government, local government, and local residents, working together to ensure the balanced development of the Hengchun Peninsula''s six townships, and jointly create a new future of Taiwan tourism.
